AD: Not Another Neck Tie: Give With Your Conscience This Father’s Day

Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative offers a gift that includes a donation to Heifer International.

Courtesy photo

Finally, a Father’s Day gift for all those dads out there who – pardon our French – give a damn. This bundle includes grill friendly meats from Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative — a group of small-scale, Arkansan farmers responsibly raising animals on pasture. Plus, they’re donating 10% of the sale of each of these bundles to Heifer International — a nonprofit working to end poverty and hunger while caring for the Earth.

The whole package — which includes grass-fed beef, brats, and chicken – is valued at $104, but for a limited time Grass Roots is selling it for $69. And it ships for free to 20 states, including Arkansas. Got a conscientious carnivore to buy for? Your shopping stops here.

Like Heifer, Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative believes that by sharing resources, they can empower farmers and invigorate communities and food systems. Every time you make a purchase from Grass Roots, you support small family farms. And with this purchase you’ll also support cooperatives of small-holder farms around the world.

This year, skip the necktie and opt for a gift that packs an extra special punch.

Flyer Homes’ newest listing is a southern charmer that is cuter’n a picnic basket full of puppies

All photos: Todd Gill, Flyer Homes

Located atop the hill on Fayetteville’s centrally located Township St. sits the most darling little slice of heaven you ever did see. Three beds, two baths, two car garage, and cute as a button on a button, this house will have you grinnin’ like a possum eatin’ a sweet tater.

Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on 1137 E Township St.

Address: 1137 E Township St, Fayetteville, AR
Price: $155,000
Beds: 3
Baths: 2
Size: 1,234 SqFt
Built: 1989
Exterior features: Lots of yard space, raised garden boxes
Interior features: Cozy as all get-out, master suite
More info:
Set up a showing: Call 479-586-8948.

This house is small but mighty and has some features you don’t always find in a home of this size. Like two full bathrooms, an en suite master bedroom with a walk-in closet, the two-car garage and gobs of good storage.

There is access right off the kitchen out to the elevated back deck, making grilling convenient, and the wood-burning fireplace in the living room will have you feeling as cozy as a possum sippin’ on a mocha latte and … wearing my robe and slippers? C’mon, get the hell out of here! Git!!

The kitchen is small but efficient and there is good pantry space in the utility room directly adjacent. Diners can enjoy their possum grits at the breakfast bar or some possum stew in the small dining area next to the kitchen.

Sure, the house may not be gussied up enough to win Miss Daisy Mae at the Sadie Hawkins dance, but it’s fine as frog hair and fit as a fiddle, which I believe just means its a real nice home with good bones. New wood-look vinyl flooring was added in the main living areas, new carpet in the bedrooms, three new ceiling fans in the living room and bedrooms and a fresh coat of paint throughout the inside.

It is also worth mentioning that you will never have to back out onto Township St from your driveway and there is plenty of parking in case your kinfolk come for a visit. And if they come at the right time of year, they can pluck a pear or plum from one of the fruit trees on their way to the front door.

If you are a first-time homebuyer looking to be in the middle of town, or if you’ve got a little crumb snatcher on the way and you want to live in the highly-regarded Root Elementary school district and right down the street from Gully Park, you’d be crazier than a rabid possum choking’ on a sweet tater not to check out this house.

Have a gander at the pictures below and call Jay at 479-601-5453 to set up a showing.

AD: Give Hope through Hair

Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a national hair donation program activated locally as part of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, will expand this year to include three signature public events throughout the community with a goal of 1,500 donors in 2017. The program encourages individuals to donate eight inches of untreated hair to create free wigs for cancer patients and annually collects enough hair to satisfy demand in Northwest Arkansas. In conjunction with the events, organizers look to engage a record number of partner salons and local schools in an effort to recruit more donors and raise awareness for the cause.

Traditionally Pantene Beautiful Lengths has hosted one major giving event during LPGA Week in Northwest Arkansas. The program is expanding this year to include a series of events which will kick off at the Sam’s Club Home Office in Bentonville on May 15 highlighting 100 donors. On June 5, an additional 100 donors will be donating hair at The Record in Downtown Bentonville. The series will conclude on June 22 with 100 donors onsite at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G in a brand new location on the golf course.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths engages community partners year round through a local salon outreach program and local school events. The salon program, inclusive of over 50 local salons, allows donors to contribute their untreated hair by visiting a partner salon to make their donation at any time. Additionally, for one week in May, the program hosts a series of private events inside 12 local schools, up from six in 2016.

“Pigtails & Crewcuts Rogers, Fayetteville, and Little Rock proudly supports Pantene Beautiful Lengths. In 2015-2016 alone, our stores donated over 700 ponytails to help ensure cancer victims the opportunity to feel like themselves again. We are privileged to participate in such a prestigious event in our home community. What a unique, awesome opportunity to provide our services involving both our customers and staff and give back to those in need!” – Lauren Coleman, Pigtails and Crewcuts, Owner

To learn more about Pantene Beautiful Lengths, visit www.BeautifulLengthsNWA.com to sign up as a donor or stylist today. Spots for the events are limited, donors are encouraged to sign up early to reserve their space.

AD: The Moon is a Balloon comes to Walton Arts Center Friday

Courtesy photo

Remember the fun you had as a kid with an empty cardboard box? It could be a spaceship, or a fort, or a race car. A stick could be a sword or a magic wand. A jumprope a lasso or a whip.

That feeling, the idea that amazing possibilities can come from the simplest things, is the premise of a new family-friendly show coming to Walton Arts Center this weekend.

The show, titled The Moon is a Balloon, was created by Patch Theatre Company of Australia, and inspired by the ee cummings poem of the same name.

In itself, the show is a simple production, featuring just two performers, a musician, and a simple, white balloons, but the discoveries made and truths uncovered in the show are decidedly more profound.

Courtesy photo

Here’s a bit of the synopsis that captures some of this.

A balloon can be many things. It can be a friend to play with or a maker of friendships. A balloon can be something loved or something lost; something shared or something broken. A balloon belongs to everyone, everywhere. It knows no borders or boundaries. Balloons connect us to each other in all kinds of ways…The Moon’s a Balloon is a visual-theater production that celebrates the possibilities of play, the making of friendships and the wonder of creation.

The local production is set for Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. Come an hour early for pre-show activities with the University of Arkansas S.P.A.C.E. Hogs who will be discussing the moon and its phases. And there will be a reading nook too!

The show is recommended for anyone 4 years old and older. Tickets are just $8, on sale now at waltonartscenter.org.
